KENAN 1121 - RESEARCH LAB

The IFML research space is equipped with three different research areas: multi-channel video editing, virtual reality testing / greenscreen / volumetric video capture, stop animation production, and small group meetings area. For space reservations, email byrds@uncw.edu.


STOP MOTION ANIMATION & SCANNING STATION

This station features an iMac Computer with the full Adobe Creative Cloud Suite and a Stop Animation Stand, dedicated Canon 7D DSLR Camera with a 58mm lens. The station is set up for direct tether capture where images are viewable in real time on the iMac. The station also features a dedicated Epson Perfection V600 Digital Scanner which can scan via the flatbed up 8.5 x 11.7” at 6400 x 9600 dpi and can also scan 35mm and medium format negatives and slides.

BACKDROP SWEEP PAPER

Features three separate types of roll down backdrop paper. The colors are Green Screen, White, and Black. This station is functional for photographic capture and small videography setups.

IMMERSIVE MEDIA EDITING STATION

Features a Mac Pro computer with the Adobe Creative Suite and Insta360 software. The station features a Samsung C49RG9 49" 32:9 Curved Gaming Monitor. This allows students to more easily view and edit both 360 cinema content and also to edit for multi-screen or multi-channel video for immersive projection installation.

SMALL MEETING AREA

This meeting space comfortably accommodates 4-6 people. It includes to two rolling tables, four chairs, and two additional fold out chairs. There is also a wall mounted monitor with an HDMI connection and permanently mounted web camera.

VIRTUAL REALITY STATION

This station is connected to a HTC Vive headset which allows for full immersion in virtual reality experiences. Researchers also have access to the Kinect Azure Sensor which allows for volumetric video capture. Two Gear VR headsets and one Oculus Rift are also available for virtual reality / 360 cinema content viewing. The photographic backdrop sweep will be installed with white, black, gray, and greenscreen paper.

REEL FILM SCANNING STATION

Features a Cintel Scanner G3 HDR+ analog reel film scanner, DaVinci Resolve Studio software, and a 35mm film gate. The Cintel scanner transfers film directly to DaVinci Resolve which gives you the power to edit film rolls back together, scans to be color graded, reframed, noise reduced and audio extracted.

KENAN 1133 - BLACK BOX


The Kenan Blackbox has equipment dedicated to immersive sound and video installation production. The space can also be utilized for traditional video production projects.
